Tournaments are serious business for the Florence (S.C.) Area Sports Council. Girls’ fast-pitch softball, boys’ baseball, men’s slow-pitch softball, youth and adult tennis, summer collegiate baseball and even canine agility. Tournaments start in March and run through October with championships aplenty to cap the year off. Sports tourism delivers a huge economic impact.
Florence Area Sports Council is serious in contributing to the economic impact and quality of life Florence has to offer. The council's grants are meant to boost sports tourism through overnight stays as a result of a tournament or media coverage that promotes Florence as a sports destination. The main purpose of the sports recruitment grant is to provide seed funds to recruit new and/or developing sports events programming.
Standard funding is based on the total number expected paid hotel rooms to be booked as a result of the sporting event, media coverage. Applications must be completed and sent to the secretary of the Florence Area Sports Council to be considered by the executive committee before the event. Notification of eligibility for funding will be sent to the applicant with the maximum amount of funding based on expected hotel room nights booked. Grant funding will not exceed $2.50 per room night, and it will be awarded according to budgetary constraints. Funds based on actual attendance will be forwarded upon submission of the Post Event Economic Impact Form.
