The Florence Tennis Association promotes the game and increases participation in tennis in the community.
The group was awarded the 2007 Community Tennis Association of the Year award by United States Tennis Association.
For 2016, Paul Pittman, past president of the FTA, received one of the South's most prestigious awards for volunteer service to the sport of tennis, the Charlie B. Morris Service Award at the annual meeting of the United States Tennis Association Southern Section. Pittman serves on USTA's board of directors as its development chair. He helps organize and procures grant funding for youth tennis programs as well as chairs the marketing and public relations for the area's professional tournament, McLeod for Health Florence Open.
The FTA was instrumental in the design of the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center, which is hosting the USTA Mixed Doubles State Championships in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
